Fraudsters acting as bridegroom/ bride posts an impressive profile on matrimonial sites and befriends potential victim
After gaining trust, the fraudster asks the victim to transfer money into his/her bank account expressing an emergency
Once they receive the money they never respond to the victim and disappears
How to detect fraudsters on matrimonial websites?
• Reluctance to come on VIDEO chat or to meet in person
• Expresses his/her love in short span of acquaintance
• Fraudster will usually call from multiple numbers
• Enquires about your financial status at initial stage of interaction
• He/She may not have a social media profile
Few things to remember
• Go for verified matrimonial sites only
• Always do a background check of the prospective match
• Always choose to meet the prospective match in a public place
• Be vigilant while sharing personal information
• Never entertain any request for money
